Across Shenzhen's major shopping malls and supermarkets, merchants are offering-whether for sale or as free giveaways-a wide variety of eco-friendly shopping bags; these bags come in a multitude of colors and thicknesses, with the total range of styles numbering in the dozens.
Yesterday, a vendor specializing in plastic packaging bags at the Huaqiangbei Metro Mall told reporters, "We have specifically increased our stock of non-woven eco-friendly bags." Similarly, a shop owner specializing in plastic packaging bags at the Sungang Road Market informed reporters that the eco-friendly bags currently sold in the market are all manufactured using a material known as "non-woven fabric," which is durable enough for repeated use and is relatively environmentally friendly.
The implementation of the "Plastic Restriction Order" has also prompted manufacturers and vendors of ordinary plastic bags to seek strategic transformations in order to adapt to changing market dynamics. A large-scale manufacturer of eco-friendly bags told reporters that while there were only 20 non-woven fabric production lines nationwide in 1999, that number has since grown to 300 today.
A representative from the Shenzhen Textile Industry Association stated that the introduction of the "Plastic Restriction Order" has created significant business opportunities for the non-woven fabric industry. Consequently, many enterprises have forged extensive alliances with manufacturers in the textile and plastics sectors, leveraging existing market entry channels and established supply-and-sales networks to make a concerted effort to successfully introduce their eco-friendly bags into the consumer market.
